New Year, New You

We are super excited to be writing our first blog post of 2017! A new year means new beginnings and a chance to revisit our routine and see where we can improve. After all new year, new you 🙂

But we all know sometimes it’s hard to stick to new year’s resolutions. The key is to make your resolutions do-able, then build on that. For example, if your new year’s resolution is to take up yoga, make it your resolution to practice on your own via an app for 10 minutes a day. As you become more confident and stronger, you will programme longer sessions, say 20-30 minutes a day. Then when ready, you can join a regular class, or continue on your own for a hour a day. The key is to make the goals achievable. As you achieve these goals, you can set yourself further goals and so on.

The feeling of accomplishment will give you the confidence and will power to pursue this new resolution further and thereby making the resolution stick. This eliminates the feeling of being overwhelmed especially if you have many resolutions! Take baby steps and achieving your goals are a sure thing!

As a new parent there is so much to juggle, so where do we begin? Well, we have put together some tips on ways to getting into better habits which can help make improve life as a new parent.

1) Be more patient

As a new parent getting into the swing of making these changes and looking after a baby can be a distraction to achieving your goals. But a little patience can go a long way. Impatience more than likely works you up and can cause you to stress out and you quickly lose your grip on the situation. Take the time to breathe and have some patience. Keeping calm keeps you focused and in control. So breathe, count to 5 and all will be okay. Yes, even when you find out you are out of baby wipes in the middle of the night.

2) Get more “ME” time

In order to re-charge your batteries, make sure you are getting an effective period of “me” time on a daily basis – even if it’s 30 minutes a day. Find a way to shut out the world where you can truly be at ease and relax. This could be reading a good book, a warm calming bubble bath or just a quiet evening with your partner. A little each day can go a long way.

3) Date your partner

This may seem like an odd one, but with all the fuss and muss of having a new human being in the family to look after can take the attention off another important relationship – the one with your partner. So schedule in some “date nights” with your partner to get some “us time” in and remember where it all started 🙂

4) Have faith

Being a new parent can be a daunting experience. The pressure is constantly on to being “the perfect parent” combined with “am I forgetting something?” with a dash of “am I doing it right?”. Breathe. You are doing just fine. Take a step back and appreciate what you and your partner have done and marvel at the baby you both have looked after and nurtured. Have faith you are doing a good job and don’t worry too much about other people judging your parenting skills. You’re doing a great job.

5) Spend the dosh where it matters

That means planning ahead on what you are spending on. For example, plan your meals when doing your grocery market shopping (and not a dash to nearest take away). Think, do I really need that extra pair of shoes? Think and double think about purchases before making them to make your money go further. Think about what matters more – a new handbag or a nice family holiday?
