Coping With Morning Sickness

Morning Sickness occurs in the early weeks of pregnancy, and can occur at anytime – not just the morning! The nausea is caused by increased hormonal activity and some researchers believe it is a good sign of the placenta developing healthily. More than 50% of women suffer from Morning Sickness up to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. This can be difficult and uncomfortable but there are ways to try to control the nausea.

 

Here are our top tips:

 

Keep drinking water to stay hydrated

Wear comfortable, loose clothes

Eat Ginger supplements or ginger flavour food such as biscuits

Ginger

Relax and try to lie down (not straight after eating)

Eat:

simple, dry, bland foods like crackers or toast

mints, chew mint gum, or drink mint tea

nutritious foods such as peanut butter and fruit

Skippy

Get fresh air

Be prepared – Morning Sickness can strike at any moment so when out and about keep a bottle of water, tissues, a sick bag and dry crackers with you.

If you experience severe sickness, you may be suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum. Check with your GP straightaway for further advice.
